10 Years of Samsung Security For Safer Future
May 23, 2023Samsung Electronics is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its renowned security platform, Samsung Knox. First introduced at the Mobile World Congress in 2013, Samsung Knox has evolved into a comprehensive security platform that has become synonymous with protecting billions of consumers and businesses.
Now, Samsung is looking towards the future of device security with the introduction of Knox Matrix. This new vision aims to create a connected ecosystem where devices can not only protect themselves but also safeguard their users. With the increasing number of connected devices in our lives, the need for a holistic security approach has become more crucial than ever.
While connected devices offer numerous benefits, the rise in connectivity also poses potential risks and vulnerabilities. Traditional security infrastructure that focuses on individual devices may not be sufficient to keep up with the evolving threat landscape. A compromised device could have a cascading effect on others within the same ecosystem. Knox Matrix addresses this challenge by introducing a revolutionary concept of multi-device security for mobile phones, TVs, home appliances, and more.
Knox Matrix employs a mechanism where if a device is compromised, it is isolated from the rest of the ecosystem to protect the other devices. By supporting Knox Matrix across various devices, a user’s smart home can become a fortified shield. The more devices connected, the stronger the overall security becomes.
Key features of Knox Matrix include Trust Chain, which allows devices to monitor each other for potential threats, Credential Sync for secure data transfer between devices, and Cross Platform SDK for consistent security standards across different operating systems and platforms. All of this is managed within a private blockchain framework, enabling devices to check for breaches and ensure safety through intelligent threat monitoring.
Samsung plans to roll out Knox Matrix in phases, starting with its Galaxy products such as smartphones and tablets. Knox Matrix-compatible models will be available from 2024, initially featuring the core features mentioned above, with additional updates expected in the future. Over the next two to three years, Samsung aims to extend Knox Matrix to cover its home appliance devices and eventually partner devices. Development is already underway to ensure compatibility with partner devices.
Samsung’s commitment to collaboration and open standards is evident in its SmartThings platform, which enables different devices to work seamlessly together. The company has been actively working with trusted industry partners and the security community to define and expand security standards. By leveraging the collective expertise, Samsung aims to identify and address vulnerabilities proactively. This collaborative approach, along with end-to-end protection and real-time threat detection integrated into its products, forms the foundation for Samsung Galaxy devices.
Knox Matrix represents the latest advancement in the innovative history of Samsung Knox security. As part of this ongoing commitment, Samsung recently introduced Knox Vault, a key security solution that safeguards users’ most sensitive data, ensuring it remains secure and inaccessible to unauthorized individuals.
