All Google Products Will Use Recycled Material By 2025

Google, an advocate of environmental conservation, is doubling down on its goal by committing to sustainable hardware development. Previously, the company made it known that it wants to ensure that its operations run entirely on renewable energy. Now, its attempting to do the same for its hardware business.

The Search giant says that by 2025, all its products will use recycled or renewable material in at least 50% of the plastics that it uses. This plan is already in effect, since the Pixel 5’s rear uses recycled aluminium and the Nest Audio contains 70% recycled plastics in its parts. The same is true of the Nest Thermostat and its trim plate of which 75% consists of recycled plastic.

Apart from this, the company says that it is committing to achieving UL 2799 Zero Waste to Landfill certification at all final assembly manufacturing sites by 2022. This means that the vast majority of waste from those operations will be recycled. It’s a commendable goal, and one which should make Google one of the better known environmentally conscious companies around.

Taking its green initiative a step further, Google also wants make sure that its shipping practices are kept 100% carbon neutral. As such, and by 2025, all the packing that it uses to ship products in, will be 100% plastic free and 100% recyclable. Not only would this reduce the sorting work for recyclers, but will also minimize the amount of plastics that scatter landfills.
