Not to be outdone by its rival, Google, Amazon has developed its own cloud gaming platform called Luna. It is built on the company’s flexible and scalable cloud computing platform (AWS). Like Google’s Stadia, Luna negates the need for powerful PCs or expensive gaming consoles. Since the cloud is doing the heavily lifting, users can game on just about any device.

At the moment Luna, can be experienced on the Fire TV, PC, Mac and through web apps on iOS device. Support for Android devices is forthcoming. Though the platform isn’t available worldwide yet, customers in the U.S. have been granted early access to Luna+ at a price of $5.99 a month. Subscribers can play on two devices simultaneously and get resolutions of up to 4K/60fps.

Luna+ is Amazon’s gaming channel that offers a growing library of gaming titles that include Resident Evil 7, Control, and Panzer Dragoon; adventure games like A Plague Tale: Innocence and The Surge 2, platformers like Yooka-Laylee, The Impossible Lair, Iconoclasts, GRID, ABZU, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

In addition to this, Amazon also announced a new gaming channel with publisher Ubisoft, that can be accessed through Luna. Customers who subscribe to this channel will be given access to their favorite Ubisoft content at up to 4K resolution. It’s the first of multiple Luna channels being developed to provide customers with unfettered access to games by their favorite publishers.

“We created Luna to make it easy to play great games on the devices customers already own and love,” said Marc Whitten, Vice President, Amazon Entertainment Devices and Services. “It’s Day One for Luna—we are excited to work with gamers, streamers, and publishers like Ubisoft and Remedy Entertainment to build a great gaming experience for everyone.”

This is how you can gain access to Luna according to Amazon:

“Customers in the U.S. can request for an invitation today for early access to Luna. By choosing to participate, invited gamers will have the opportunity to contribute feedback that will inform future Luna features and development. Request an invitation to Luna today at http://amazon.com/Luna/.”

Luna and Google’s Stadia have been developed to allow users to enjoy the same, high quality gaming experience on multiple platforms. It doesn’t matter where they are, or what they are gaming on. These cloud platforms allow them to play the most demanding gaming titles, on a phone, tablet, PC or even their TV. In time, it could prove to be a decent alternative to the conventional method of gaming.
