Apple has launched its second iteration of the iPhone SE, which is a smaller and cheaper version of its flagship smartphone. The original SE launched in 2016 mirrored the aesthetics of the iPhone 5, but the new SE bears a striking resemblance to the iPhone 8.

It has the same aluminum design, chamfered edges as well as the iconic thick top and bottom bezels. In fact, it’s the first iPhone since the 8 to feature a physical home button (with haptic feedback). It’s sapphire coated too, and houses the phone’s finger print sensor. Fittingly, it has the same size display as the 8 at 4.7-inches – it’s relatively small by today’s standards.

Underneath however, its a very different story. At the heart of the new iPhone SE is the A13 Bionic chip, the same processor that powers the iPhone 11 range of smartphones. That means it is fully capable of the same performance when dealing with CPU intensive work and gaming. But unlike the 11, the new SE has to make do with one, 12MP (f/1.8) rear camera.

That said, the 12MP main shooter is capable of exceptional computational photography, that include Portrait mode, Smart HDR photos and capturing smooth and crisp videos (4K up to 60fps). Despite being this feature rich, Cupertino believes that the phone can offer good battery life.

And like the iPhone 8, the new SE supports wireless-charging and fast charging with Qi-certified chargers. Apple says that charging the device for 30 minutes can offer up to 50% charge, which isn’t too bad. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Gibabit-class LTE, but the standout feature has to be dual sim support.

This can be accomplished through the use of the eSIM, which should make the iPhone SE a popular device in emerging markets, where such a feature is in high demand. There are 3 storage options to choose from, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. But in typical Apple fashion there’s no support for expandable storage.

The iPhone SE will be available to purchase on April 17th 2020 starting at USD399, and can be had in three different colours: black, white and (PRODUCT)RED. If you are interested in this mini iPhone visit Apple.com to learn more.
