China is a very important market for Apple. And today, it has opened the new Apple Sanlitun store in Beijing. Situated just adjacent to the previous store on Taikoo Li’s open market square, Cupertino’s new location boasts many firsts for its brick-and-mortar stores.

About 33-foot glass panels encapsulate the new store, blurring the barrier between in side and out. Signature staircases on either side of the store run parallel with exterior stairs. And in line with other Apple store characteristics, the Sanlitun also has a Forum, Viewing Gallery, and Boardroom.

The Forum will host some of Beijing’s greatest artists, musicians and creatives. The Viewing Gallery, perched on the grand upper level, provides a pleasing view of the outdoor square. Here, customers can sit and unwind as their wait to be called upon. The Boardroom, is twice the size of that in the previous store and is dedicated to customer service and support.

An array of solar panels make up the store’s roofing. They provide enough power to the store directly beneath them. According to Apple, all of its facilities run exclusively on renewable energy, and in China alone, it produces enough electricity to power more than 450,000 homes, annually.

The new Apple Sanlitun is open to customers, however there strict protocols in place that include temperature checks, social distancing and mask requirements. This is to adhere to the guidelines put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
