Apple is introducing a few new features to its News platform that include the addition of several prominent news outlets to its curated list of sources as well as the ability to listen noteworthy news. The daily audio news briefings will be hosted ny Apple News editors, and from curated local news collections.

Called Apple News Today, these news briefings consist of 20 audio stories a week that cover a wide range of topics. The sessions will be narrated by professional voice actors of feature reporting and long-form pieces published by TIME, New York Magazine, Wired and many more.

Apple News showcases so much great journalism, and we’re excited to help bring it to life in new ways with Apple News+ audio stories and a new daily news show, Apple News Today,” said Lauren Kern, editor-in-chief of Apple News.

Cupertino says that its news show, which consists of topics curated from a plethora of reputable sources, will keep listeners informed of the latest news and interesting stories. Apple News Today is free to all listeners directly accessible within the News app in the US and on Apple Podcasts. Said audio briefings will be available every morning from Mondays to Fridays.

In addition to this, Apple also announced that its News app is now able to support CarPlay. This will allow users to listen to the latest news during their commute – the concept sounds vaguely familiar to me. The listening experience is synced across devices, which means you can pick up where you left off on any of your Apple devices.

Apple News covers a wide array of important topics such as sports, dining and restaurants, weather, news and politics, and more. Subscribers of Apple News+ however, also gain access to stories published by The Charlotte Observer, the Idaho Statesman, The Kansas City Star, the Miami Herald, The News & Observer, and The State (Columbia, South Carolina).

This expansion is only limited to certain cities in the US, but Cupertino says that it will eventually include more regions in the near future.
