Foldable Phones Can Be A 3-In-1

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold2 is about a year old. It’s primary purpose was to iron out the creases of the original Fold, and restore faith our in foldable devices. And to an extent, the company succeeded. It has a more robust folding mechanism, improved screens and cleverer software.

Folding phones are still far out of the reach of the average Joe. They are simply too expensive for general consumers, but that might change once companies like Samsung figure out how to reduce manufacturing costs. If and when this transpires, many users will begin to understand the practicality that these novel devices offer.

A Fold2 isn’t just a smartphone. It can unfold into a tablet and thanks to the DeX system, transform into a pseudo PC once connected to a Monitor or TV. As such, it’s a 3-in-1 device that could cause some tablets and laptops to be considered obsolete. As farfetched as that might sound to general consumers, it could happen.

These are some of the ways that make the Fold2 far more practical than any Smartphone or tablet:

It’s a smartphone one moment, but once unfolded, it turns into a tablet

The Fold2 has two displays. The first is a 5.4-inch AMOLED one on the outside. It functions just like any other smartphone on the market. But, once the screen real-estate becomes a little too constrictive for certain tasks, the job can be handed over to the inner display.

Unfolding the sides reveals a 7.6-inch folding AMOLED panel that offers similar performance to conventional smartphone displays. Once the screen comes to life, you can pick up where you left off, and comfortably read documents, scrutinise schematics or edit your photos and videos.

Better Conference Calls

Online meetings have become part of the “new normal” to most of us. But it can prove inconvenient to host or contribute to a session when using a regular-sized smartphone. The Fold2’s folding display, the 7.6-inch screen can be split into two. This way, you can see everyone and eveything that is being presented.

Flex Mode is a feature that adjusts the display to function as two individual ones. This way a video could be playing on the top half, while the bottom section displays the controls and other options of the respective app.

Better Multitasking

In case you didn’t know, you can arrange your active apps into individual windows on the Fold2’s main screen. The top half can be used to display two separate apps, while the lower half is used for viewing documents or presentations. This is made possible by the Multi-Active Window feature.

Once enabled, it lets you drag and drop three individual apps into the available spaces as seen in the picture above. It could help improve your workflow while juggling multiple apps at any given time.

A Practical Presentation Tool

The Fold2 may be thicker than the average smartphone, but it’s still small enough to be considered convenient to carry on your person. Instead of having to lug a tablet around, the Fold2 can be unfolded to become one, when the need arises. This added screen space can help keep you on track during presentations.

Your notes, and talking points should be easy to spot when moving from slide to slide. And once you’re done with said session, it can be folded, then slipped into your pocket (it will need to be substantially deep one) or a handbag.
