Honda Malaysia has just launched the latest iteration of its ever-popular mid-size SUV, the CR-V. The name plate is an abbreviation for Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. Now in its 6th generation, it is the de facto vehicle of choice for consumers who want a versatile mode of transportation.

The new CR-V features bolder and more angular looks, making it far more aggressive than the outgoing model. It features a front grille with mesh pattern, full LED headlights and taillights, front LED sequential turn signals, tailpipe chrome finishers and active cornering lights.

It’s also bigger and wider sitting at 4,691mm in length, 1,866mm width, 1,681mm height and with a 2,701mm wheelbase. Honda is offering it in S, E and V trims while the hybrid, named e:HEV RS sits at the top of the range.

The boot capacity is 589 litres when the rear seats are up and increases to 1,072 litres when the seats are laid flat. For added convenience, there’s the Hands-Free Power Tailgate with Walkaway Close which can be activated by raising one’s foot below the rear bumper. The boot door will automatically close when the owner walks away.

For the interior, leather-trimmed seats are available in the E variant and higher trims levels. An 8-way Driver Power Seat with two-position memory presets are also available. Rear legroom has now improved with 16mm more space. The rear seats can slide and recline at eight different angles.

Honda says the e:HEV RS variant comes loaded with extra goodies like a 10.2-inch TFT Meter, Bose Premium Sound System with 12 Speakers (a first in Honda’s local line-up), Head Up Display (HUD) that shows the speed and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), and a Smart Key Card. This is in addition to the Active Shutter Grille, a highly functional Front Lower Bumper that enhances the aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and Berlina Black 18-inch alloy wheels.

All variants get a total of eight airbags, which includes two knee ones that will help boost overall safety. The same is true of Honda CONNECT. The new CR-V comes with an upgraded Honda SENSING system as well as a Wide-Angle Radar, Camera and Sonar Sensor, Adaptive Driving Beam. Honda LaneWatch and a Multi View Camera System (360-degree Camera) are also available for the upper variants.

Honda has given the e:HEV RS a 2.0-litre e:HEV powertrain that produces 184PS and 335NM of torque. It’s mated to an e:CVT for better overall fuel efficiency and performance. The S, E and V variants feature the same 1.5L VTEC turbo engine that’s used across the company’s product range. It can produce 193PS and 243Nm of torque. It too is mated to a CVT.

The V variant gets Real Time AWD that offers improved power distribution between the front and rear wheels for a more stable drive. If you’re interested, here are the prices of the S, E, and V variants:

V RM181,900.00
E RM169,900.00
S RM159,900.00

The initial 750 orders for the S Variant will be able to get the vehicle at RM157,900 instead of the original sticker price of RM159,900. If that is your cup of tea, then rush to the nearest Honda dealership to put down your order.

As for colour options, there are a total of 5 colours to choose from: Canyon River Blue Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Ignite Red Metallic

Honda says that the e:HEV RS variant will only be available to purchase early next year which is why it’s chosen to keep mum the vehicle’s pricing till we inch closer to the actual release date.
