Honda Malaysia has finally added a hybrid variant to its ever popular, 11th gen Civic line up. Officially named the Civic e:HEV RS, the new car aims to fill the needs of customers who want decent fuel efficiency without sacrificing much performance. It joins the City, City Hatchback and HR-V as models that feature a hybrid powertrain as an option

The car is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that is assisted by two electric motors. Power is sent to the wheels via the e-CVT gearbox (Electric Continuously Variable Transmission) and an IPU (Intelligent Power Unit). As such the 2.0-: e:HEV powertrain has a combined output of 184PS and 315Nm of torque, which Honda says is the highest in its class.

Typical of any Honda bearing the RS badge, the new hybrid Civic gets a few special tweaks and styling changes to help it stand out from the rest of its siblings. It gets Chrome Ring Insert Headlight and Front Grille, Black Half Chrome Door Handle, unique Blue H Mark and e:HEV emblem. There’s also 18-inch dual tone alloy wheels and a single tailpipe finisher.

Inside, the new car is fitted with a wireless phone charger, 10.2-inch full TFT meter (a first for the Civic) as well as a 9-inch advanced display audio that supports wireless Apple CarPlay. The Power Flow Display feature helps promote eco-friendly driving. It displays power usage in real time that matches the driving behavior, which helps drivers be more frugal with their use of the throttle.

This new civic e:HEV RS also gets a Key Card that replaces the traditional car keys. This allows keyless entry and the ability to start the engine without the need to faff about with the bulky keyless remote. Though this technology has been around for a while, it’s nice to know that it has managed to trickle down into vehicles that we can finally afford to purchase.

Compared to the regular Civic, Honda says improvements have been made to the noise vibration and harness (NVH) characteristics. The Active Noise Control (ANC) and Active Sound Control (ASC) work together to reduce outside noise while enhancing the engine sound to create a more “exciting” driving experience.
