Intel Unveils Slew Of New Chips, including 10-Core i9
May 2, 2020Intel announces new line of chips as it tries to level the playing field between itself and AMD
Intel has released several new processors based on its 10th Gen, Coffee Lake architecture. They promise better clock speeds and efficiency for a variety of tasks that including gaming. The most important of the lot is the Core i9-10900K, its a 10-core/20 threads with support for DDR4-2933 memory speeds.
The company boasts that with the use of the Intel Thermal Velocity Boost, this chip is able to boost its single-core and multicore workloads, with up to 5.3 GHz. This, the company claims, will be beneficial to content creaters and gamers alike. More control is provided to the user, allowing for more options in terms of tuning the performance.
Here’s AMD Ryzen’s list of CPUs for the sake of comparing the two:
According to Intel, “The new Intel® Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 provides automatic performance boosts on lightly threaded applications, while per-core hyperthreading control allows experienced overclockers to decide which threads to turn on or off on a per-core basis.”
A welcomed change in the line-up is the addition of Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and hyperthreading features for all 10th gen chips, across the board (i3 to i9). This should add more value to the chipmaker’s lower end hardware that have had a difficult time competing with AMD’d Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 processors.
That said, these ‘new’ chips, are improved versions of chips utilizing Intel’s current architecture. Its nothing to scoff at however, because the company is now in a position to offer AMD some stiff competition in certain segments.
