Apple and Samsung commanded the most market share last year. According to analyst report by Counterpoint Research, the iPhone XR was the most popular smartphone of 2019. It commanded a 3% market share, trailed by the iPhone 11 with 2.1%.

Samsung’s Galaxy A50 and A10 followed closely behind but were no match for Apple’s offerings, which helped round up the top 10. The holiday season played a major part in bolstering Cupertino’s sales figures. It reported respectable profits from both his hardware and services divisions.

Surprisingly, Huawei, one of the usual front runners in terms of sales numbers, didn’t make the cut. In fact, none of its phones made it on the list, which speaks volumes of the impact the US government’s ban has had on it’s range of products.

Earlier last year, The US imposed a ban on Huawei, effectively preventing US based companies from conducting business with the Chinese telecommunications giant. In anticipation of this problem, the company stockpiled the required hardware.

Though this strategy helped somewhat, the ban also prevented Huawei from using Google’s services and apps on its devices. This resulted in lukewarm reception of its newest line of smartphones in most markets outside China, including the incredibly powerful Mate 30 Pro.
