It’s Official, Facebook Is Now Called Meta
October 28, 2021Facebook has officially renamed itself Meta. The premise of said change is to bring together its apps and technology under a single brand. This includes the Facebook platform, Instagram, WhatsApp and various other entities. Meta, short for metaverse, is meant to bring people together and allow communities and businesses to connect and grow.
The change will probably make more sense once the company’s augmented reality and virtual reality headsets and technology become commonplace. But the idea here is that Meta, wants users to have a connected, three dimensional experience in VR or project information into the physical world.

According to the press release, the company’s structure isn’t changing, but how it reports its financial results, will. Staring with the fourth quarter results of 2021, Meta will report on two operating segments: Family of Apps and Reality Labs
