Lenovo’s Legion Phone Dual 2 Has Cooling Fans And 90W Fast Charging

Lenovo has unveiled a new gaming phone called the Legion Phone Dual 2. As the name suggests, this is a gamer oriented device with advanced cooling solutions. Sporting the usual ‘gamer-centric’ design cues such as a centre mounted backplate, RGB style Legion logo and multiple capacitive controls, this phone packs a serious punch.

The company says that it uses a second-generation Advanced Technology Architecture (ATA 2.0) that is cooled by a combination of an integrated, large passive cooling vapor chamber and active Twin Turbo-Fans. ATA 2.0 dual’s design allows for the CPU to be placed in the middle and away from users’ hands to prevent direct transfer of heat to his/her fingers.

These dual fans work together to move air across the hot components to help keep them cool. They work with the passive cooling components, which include graphite pads, and copper pillars to help dissipate heat as efficiently as possible. It’s quite impressive to see Lenovo pack PC-like’ cooling solutions into a regular-sized smartphone.

It’s cooling solutions help keep the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset in check. There’s also 18GB LPDDR5 memory and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. Like most other gaming phones, the Legion Phone Dual 2 is equipped with dual batteries. A 2,750mAh battery flanks the CPU on each side. They can be charged up to full in just 30 minutes or 75% in just 17 minutes.

In total, the phone has a 5,500mAh battery capacity. It can be charged through the use of two USB-Type C ports, one located on the bottom and the other on the side of the phone. The rapid charging feature is possible due to the 90W fast charging tech. We don’t know what that will mean for longevity, but it adds a great deal for one’s convenience.

Lenovo has given the phone a 6.92-inch AMOLED (2460 x 1080) HDR 10+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling rate. The AI-powered Pixelwork i6 Processor is supposed to provide for richer colors and sharper details. It uses AI Display Processing, Always-on HDR, AI-Picture Quality Engine, Skin Tone Accuracy and Dark Noise Suppression.

One of the cooler features of this phone is the impressive octa-trigger arrangement. This consists of four ultrasonic shoulder keys, two rear capacitance screen touchpoints, and two in-display force touchpoints. Lenovo believes that the setup will give gamers an edge when it comes to binding said controls to gameplay functions.

But that’s not all, to make gaming sessions more immersive, the phone also gets Dual HaptiX, the new dual X-axis haptic vibration linear motors. Lenovo believes that this, combined with the AMOLED display and sound quality, will help elevate the experience. The side mounted, pop-up 44M selfie camera is designed for use when the phone is held horizontally.

This was done deliberately to allow gamers to stream their sessions with the option of removing their backgrounds or tap into real-time overlays and effects, and even use virtual avatars. The integrated Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System provides fast 5G performance over sub-6GHz and mmWave connections, including dual 5G SIM connectivity.

Lenovo will sell the Legion Phone Dual 2 in China this month but intends to do the same in Asia Pacific and Europe by May. It’s availability in North America has yet to be determined. In Europe, with 16GB/512GB memory option and charging dock included the phone will start at €999.00. But it will be €799.00 for the 12GB/256GB version, without the charging accessory.
