LG To Use OLED TVs To Display Famous Artwork

October 17, 2021 Off By Naveen Victor

LG makes some of the best TVs in the world especially when it comes to the OLED line-up. It’s so confident in the quality of its panels, that it is using them to display professional artwork in lieu of actual canvases. It’s part of the “SELF-LIT” campaign where the Masterpiece and Museum exhibits feature the work of acclimated artists through digital recreation via millions of self-lit pixels.

The company will have an exhibit at Frieze London, which is one of several well-known international art fairs. Named LG OLED X Damien Hirst: A History of Painting, after its partnership with the artist, it will feature paintings such as Kaleidoscope and Spin series alongside self-lit digital reproductions and the artist’s NFT series.

Said works will be displayed on LG’s rollable TV, the SIGNATURE OLED R, LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K and the G1 Gallery Series. The eye-popping contrasts and colour gamut of these panels are said to be good enough to portray a sense of realism and offer the same effect as if you were looking at the actual work.

LG will expand its SELF-LIT project with the LUX, New Wave of Contemporary Art exhibition at 180 The Strand. The company has other projects lined up that will allow it to show the world what its OLED panels can do. Here, artists such as Refik Anadol and Es Devlin will demonstrate their creativity using over 100 OLED products.

This includes LG TVs and transparent OLED displays that allow visitors to experience visual art inspired by these new technologies. Every art piece that LG brings to the digital world with its OLED screens are uploaded to the project website as they are unveiled.
