LG Velvet Is The Company’s Next Big Phone

LG is working on a new flagship smartphone that it plans on calling, Velvet. It will be the first device in recent history to adopt this new model nomenclature, differing from the alphanumerical designations of the past.

The name Velvet, is supposed to invoke images of ‘lustrous smoothness and premium softness’, which LG says encapsulates two characteristics of the phone. And based on the company’s teaser video on YouTube, we have no cause to doubt said claims.

A major reason for the departure from the contemporary styling and naming system, is the fact that it is difficult to tell one device apart from the next. The Korean electronics giant believes that drastic changes are needed to capture the attention of consumers.

That’s why the Velvet is unlike any other LG smartphone preceding it, with an angular design, full screen display, hole punch camera and elegantly metallic frame. On the rear, the triple camera setup is arranged a way that mimics the look of rain drops.

This lends a unique look to the phone’s design, an attribute that should allow it to stand out from phones that have their cameras encased in capsule-like borders. In fact, this is a welcomed decision considering that in recent years, the company’s current devices are behind the curve in terms of innovation and hardware.
