LG’s New Wireless TV Lets You Place It Anywhere

LG announced an interesting 97-inch TV at CES this year. It’s called the LG SIGNATURE OLED (model M3) and it’s the world’s first consumer TV that doesn’t use cables. It uses wireless technology that is able to transmit real-time video and audio at up to 4K, 120Hz. The rationale behind this is being able to set it up just about anywhere and still receive crystal clear video.

Though some might consider this to be a gimmick but a wireless TV makes sense for a lot of people. For a conventional TV, you’d connect external devices like consoles, audio equipment, PCs or other home theatre setups to its input ports. But for this LG, all connections are plugged into a separate Zero Connect box – safe for the TV power cable.

It’s this box that sends the video and audio signals, wirelessly, to the TV. As such, the LG M3 can be placed in a suitable spot without cluttering up the surrounding space with various devices. The company says that this will allow users the freedom to position things the way they’d like instead of having to make compromises.

Like conventional idiot boxes, the M3’s Zero Connect box has input ports to support a variety of devices that includes set-top boxes and soundbars. That said, the company hasn’t revealed what technology it uses to transmit the single and the range limit of said transmission.

The idea of a wireless TV isn’t a new concept. It has been tried several times in the past but the LG M3 is the only one that touts the ability of offering reliable, 4K video transmission without detriment to overall quality. We shall have to wait and see how well it performs in the real world.
