Microsoft has announced that it’s board has unanimously elected its CEO, Satya Nadella to the role of board chair and elected John W. Thompson as lead independent director. Nadella’s insight and understanding of the business will be key to identifying strategic opportunities, key risk and mitigation approaches for the board’s review.

Born in Hyderabad, India, he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Mangalore University, a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. He joined Microsoft in 1992 and has been responsible for transforming the company’s biggest products.

Nadella succeeded Steve Ballmer as CEO in 2014, prior to which he was the executive vice president of Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise group. He is also credited for the company’s meteoric rise in the cloud computing space.

Thompson retains significant authority including providing input on behalf of the independent directors on board agendas, calling meetings of the independent directors, setting agendas for executive sessions, and leading performance evaluations of the CEO.

On June 24th, Microsoft will be releasing a new version of Windows, which could be called Windows 11. It is supposed to bring about several changes that include a new start up tone. If you are interested in attending the live event check it out here.
