The importance of the ability to code, is not lost on Apple. Many have come to terms with the shift toward an automated world where AI and machine learning play more prominent roles in our daily lives. ‘Teach ’em young’ is probably Cupertino’s business plan here, because it has just announced a new set of tools to help educators teach coding to students.

It’s aimed at those from grade school to college, where coding knowledge can offer a significant advantage when assesing their career path and job opportunities. Apple’s Develop ain Swift and Everyone Can Code curricula cover a wide range of topics. But it’s taking it a step further by offering dedicated courses to help teachers at no cost.

The objective here is to supplement the need for computer science educators in the US, and helps instructors of all skill levels build foundational knowledge to teach app development with Swift. In case you didn’t know, Swift is Apple’s own home-baked opensource programming software that allows for the design and deployment of programs with minimal computer knowledge.

Xcode on Mac is designed for new and experienced coders to build applications for Apple’s computer platform. However, the advent of Apple Silicon and ARM based MacOS Big Sur, might eventually bridge the gap between Swift and Xcode. As of now though, Cupertino has beefed up its Develop in Swifit Curriculum with a new series of books.

These books are called “Develop in Swift Explorations,” “Develop in Swift AP CS Principles,” and “Develop in Swift Fundamentals,” which are all live today, and “Develop in Swift Data Collections.” If you are interested, you will be happy to know that they are available for free in Apple Books.

Apple plans on adding on to the current collection soon. It has become apparent that Cupertino is increasing its presence in classrooms around the world, which could cut into Google’s Chromebook space.
