OnePlus 8 Pro: The Flagship Killer, No More
April 15, 2020OnePlus has launched its latest interpretation of a flagship killer, which ironically enough, comes with a flagship price tag, USD899. Over the last several years, the company’s phones have become increasingly more powerful and exponentially more expensive. Now, in 2020, It is no longer the blue-collared hero its predecessors once were.
The original OnePlus (2014), retailed for USD299 with 16GB storage and USD349 for the 64GB model. The device’s decent hardware and cut-throat pricing helped cement the company’s footing as a left-field and ‘enthusiast-focused’ smartphone maker. Since then, OnePlus has enjoyed somewhat of a cult following, supported by a legion of loyalists who have never faltered.
That said, the OnePlus 8 Pro is a fantastic device. It has slender lines and curves, a generously large display that tapers towards the edges and the performance prowess of a true flagship device. There are two phones to choose from, the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. The Pro gets a better screen, bigger battery, better ultra-wide camera and wireless charging.
Both phones have 5G support and are powered by the same Snapdragon 865 chip, a generous helping of either 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 4K video recording. Besides the gorgeous 120Hz display, there isn’t much between these two devices. Take a look at the breakdown below:

OnePlus needs to be commended for its effort here. The OnePlus 8 Pro is a true flagship device that can go head-to-head with the likes of Samsung’s S20 series. It also has a similarly placed punch-hole front camera, a stark contrast to the One Plus 7 Pro’s motorized pop-up setup. The hole isn’t particularly distracting, but it is noticeable.
If you’re interested, the One Plus Pro is available to purchase for USD899 while its less equipped sibling, the One Plus 8 retails for USD 699. Both phone come with three colour options with one unique color for each model.
