OPPO A96 Unboxing & First Impressions

April 14, 2022 Off By Naveen Victor

OPPO’s A96 is a new entrant in the highly competitive smartphone market. Slated for launch later this month, it incorporates design language that did wonders for the Reno 7 Pro. The glow design manufacturing process that it goes through, is responsible for its “jazzy” color layout. There are two color options to choose from: Starry Black and Pearl Pink.

The latter is what we have as our review unit, and is probably the more interesting choice. Its color gradually morphs from pink to light turquoise as it progresses towards the top of the phone. This gives the A96 a sense of uniqueness, which allows it to stand out from the competition.

OPPO is one of a few companies that devote a substantial amount of time into the development of such color schemes. It’s this attention to detail that might win over those of us who are looking for devices that match our personality.

If you chose to buy the A96, what would you get in the box? Well, judging from the overall dimensions of the packaging, a number of things. On the top, is the A96, protected in its plastic wrappings. Underneath it, you’ll find a transparent silicone case, SIM ejection tool and literature on the phone functions as well as the warranty.

Beneath those items, lie the USB Type-C charging cable and a 33W power brick. The A96 already has a screen protector applied to its screen, so there’s no need to rush out and buy one. Based on what I’ve just said, you can see that OPPO provides everything in the box that you need to get started.

The phone has a 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. OPPO boasts that its super power saving mode helps eke out as much power as possible when the battery runs low. And when charging at night, the A96 uses an optimized night charging feature that aims to provide optimum use of the power supplied to the phone.

Due to an embargo, we can’t reveal too much about the phone, yet. However, I can tell you that it has a 90Hz, punch hole display that uses adaptive refresh rate technology and AI eye comfort. You can also choose between vivid or gentle mode to ensure the screen’s colors suit your taste.

The A96 comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. RAM expansion is supported, so the overall memory limit can be increased through the use of internal storage space. On the rear, there are two cameras: a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP bokeh one that features AI natural retouching and AI Palette. On the front is a 16MP selfie camera.

We will be able to reveal more about these cameras and the phone’s overall performance on 18th April 2022. Stay tuned for more.
