OPPO Launches AI Powered Find X5 Pro and X5

OPPO has launched its new Find X5 series phones which consist of the Find X5 Pro and Find X5. They feature a more futuristic material design and aesthetics. That said, the latter has a more subdued look than the former. As good as the phones look, the main party piece is the imaging Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which the company claims to not only make night video and photography possible, but create crisp content.

This is made possible by the combination of NPU called the MariSilicon X and dual 50MP, IMX766 sensors working together. The former is OPPO’s own 6nm process that packs the most powerful AI computing power available on the market. It uses an AI noise reduction algorithm (AINR) designed by the OPPO Research Institute to reduce noise in each frame, pixel by pixel. The 13MP telephoto lens completes the trio of camera sensors.

OPPO says that the system can do this while preserving original details, which include skin tone and colour accuracy. This results in four times better “perceived” night video resolution, less grain and better colour reproduction. As such, the phone is supposed to be able to shoot usable 4K night videos with each frame resembling a crisp still photo.

These dual cameras are made up of a wide and ultra-wide-angle sensors sourced from Sony and have a size of 1/1.56”, 2um large pixel size after binning. The latter sensor uses a 5-axis OIS system and proprietary algorithms to reduce shaking, noise and at the same time, sharpen scenes. This is supposed to equate to more stable videos and crisper shots.

The selfie camera is Sony’s IMX709 sensor, which utilizes the MariSilicionX system as well to provide better pictures with more texture and accurate color reproduction, even in poor lighting conditions. When the camera detects more than one subject in the frame, it automatically switches from the standard 80-degree to a 90-degree wide-angle to fit everyone in.

The Find X5 Pro also features Hasselblad Natural Colour Calibration in Pro Mode and a range of creative Master filters, which introduces more professional colour profile to smartphone photography. At the heart of the phone sits a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, which is what powers the latest crop of flagship devices that include the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

Paired with 12GB RAM, it should be able to handle just about anything without breaking a sweat. The lesser Find X5, uses a Snapdragon 888 paired with 8GB of RAM. The Pro gets a 5,000mAh dual-cell battery that is supported by a battery health engine. This is supposed to help extend the battery health over 1600 charging cycles.

OPPO says that with 80W SUPERVOOC Flash-charging technology, Find X5 Pro can be charged from close to empty to 50 per cent in just 12 minutes, and with 50W AIRVOOC, it powers up to 100 per cent wirelessly in just 47 minutes.
