Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: It’s Also The Note22
February 9, 2022Samsung’s unpacked event today played host to the reveal of the highly anticipated Galaxy S22 flagship phones. Mirroring last year’s nomenclature, there’s the top-of-the-line S22 Ultra, S22+ and the rather dainty S22. However, unlike last year, the S22 Ultra looks far removed from the other two phones, that it deserves its own model designation.
That’s because the Korean giant has chosen to mash the design elements of its Note line with the S series phone. As a result, we get a slender curved chassis that’s reminiscent of the Note 20 Ultra. But this time around, the camera lens isn’t grouped together into an array with a glossy gold finish.
Like the Note 20 Ultra, the S22 Ultra comes with an S Pen that’s built into its chassis, you can pull it out as you would a regular Note series device. But it’s the most responsive S Pen ever produced with about 70% lower latency. Samsung claims that you can write and draw more naturally.
Ultra gets a 6.8-inch QHD display with 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a bright and vivid screen that also houses an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the new 4nm chipset promises to be far superior than the Snapdragon 888 that was in last year’s devices.
You can configure the phone to come with 8GB or 12 GB of RAM where the former comes with 128GB of storage capacity while the latter comes with either 256GB, 512GB or 1TB storage options.
As for camera lenses, we get a:

Samsung promises that the sensors can deliver a pro-level photography experience regardless of the lighting conditions, the 2.4um pixel sensor, which is the company’s largest pixel sensor ever, will allow users to capture more light and details than any of its predecessors. The Super Clear Glass also assists in reducing the flare effects when taking nighttime videos.
In addition, to this, Ultra comes with access to the Expert RAW app, which features a suite of in-camera editing tools that deliver a DSLR-like experience. You can save photos in RAW format up to 16 bit and edit those pictures by brightening or darkening your photos with ISO settings and shutter speed, adjust white balance and manually focus on a subject.
The phone is packed with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. This is considerably faster than last year’s 25W limit imposed on the entire S series line. It’ also rated for IP68 water resistance, which should provide some peace of mind to users who are constantly out and about.
In case you were wondering, the phone is available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Burgundy. Expect the phone to hit store shelves in the coming weeks.
