Samsung has released a new update for the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic as part of its Unpacked event on February 9th. The additions center around the health and wellness aspect of the watch wearing experience. Users can expect advanced interval training aimed at cyclists and runners as well as a new sleep coaching program and body composition insights.

In addition to this, there are now more ways to customize the look and feel of the watch faces in order to match Samsung’s newly released line of watch straps. These telling improvements serve as evidence of the Watch4’s importance to Samsung’s fitness line of devices.

“We understand the growing needs of smartwatch users, and are committed to guiding our Galaxy Watch4 series community on their unique wellness journeys with our latest update,” said, Janghyun Yoon, Executive Vice President and Head of Software Platform at Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics.

In a nutshell, the competition update gives users more insight into their overall fitness progress. Samsung’s health app will provide body composition insights powered by Centr, which is a digital fitness program curated by Chris Hemsworth. The goal is to help transform user health, fitness and mindset. You’re given a 30-day free trial to unrestricted access to Centr.

The new interval target feature for runners and cyclists lets you set the duration, distance and number of sets for workout sessions. Using this data, the watch then guides you through a custom intensity training session with a series of high and low intensity workouts interspersed with each other. It’s supposed to provide for a more impactful and targeted workout session.

Samsung’s new sleep coaching program aims to help users practice better sleep habits. It does this by tracking sleep patterns over seven days and by users completing two related sleep surveys. Then the program assigns one of eight sleep symbols animals to represent the user’s sleep patterns.

Then, users are guided through a four-to-five-week coaching program that includes missions, checklists, sleep-related articles, meditation guidance, and regular reports. By using this information, users can take steps to improve their sleep quality.

The Watch4 also recognizes when users fall asleep and will automatically turn off Samsung SmartThings enabled lights to help you fall asleep easily. It’s these little things that encourage you to hit the hay early.

Samsung is also introducing its blood pressure and electrocardiogram functionality to 11 new markets in Match, which includes Canada, Vietnam and South Africa. Currently, its only available to 43 countries, but the new inclusion should allow for a wider adoption of this useful technology.

You can also stream music over Wi-Fi or LTE from the YouTube Music app on the Galaxy Watch4. In practice, you could leave your phone behind and still enjoy your favorite music whole on-the-go. But that isn’t all, Google Assistant will be made available on Galaxy Watch4 series in the coming months, so you can choose between Bixby and Google Assistant.
