Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Launched: Prepare For The Foldable Revolution

August 11, 2021 Off By Naveen Victor

Samsung has taken the cover of the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. Though it retains the basic recipe of the original, it has a more elegant aluminum frame that is supposed to be the toughest one the company has ever used. The hinge mechanism remains the same, but we aren’t complaining considering how well it holds up against abuse.

The outer shell features a two tone colour scheme – one covers the entire section of the rear panel while the other encases the rear camera sensors and the outer display. These coloured panels are fitted on top of the actual shell to give a more premium look to the entire phone. There are 7 colour schemes to choose from, but we will get to it the latter part of this article.

A 5nm, 64-bit octa-core processor is said to power the phone, which means you should expect to see one of the latest Snapdragon Exynos chipset in it. It will be mated to 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage (UFS 3.1). Like the original Fold, the phone has dual batteries with a total capacity of 3,300mAh.

It’s upgraded Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos are supposed to offer better clarity, depth and spatial effects than what could be produced by the original Z Flip. Samsung says the performance should be good enough to stream movies or listen to your favourite music.

The 1.9-inch front display is about four times larger than the original Flip’s 1.1-inch unit. It’s an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 260 x 512 or 302ppi. Its foldable inner display of the Flip3 is still the same size as the Flip at 6.7-inches but the AMOLED 2x panel has a 120Hz refresh rate. It offers a resolution of 2640 x 1080 or 425ppi.

Since the phone’s outer display is significantly larger than that of its predecessor, the screen can be used to view notifications and messages. This includes checking your schedule, weather, monitor step count with the new Cover Screen widgets. The wallpaper can also be synced with that of the new Galaxy Watch4 or Watch4 Classic.

Flex mode is better than before. When the device is folded halfway, it can be used to watch videos, have video calls or take pictures. Samsung is even partnering with Google, Microsoft and several others to fully utilize the Flip3’s folding abilities. Microsoft Outlook’s dual-pane mode can be used here as well.

Half of the screen displays an entire email, while the other half can be used to preview the rest of the inbox. Samsung’s new Labs feature offers users the ability to optimize more apps to suit the foldable screen layout. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is available in Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black, Gray, White and Pink.
