Samsung Pay & Pass Are Merging Into A Single Wallet App
June 18, 2022Samsung is overhauling its Samsung Pay app in a big way. Not content with it being just a wallet, the Korean giant is creating a “super” app by merging it with Samsung Pass, which on its own, is a dedicated password storage manager. Instead of using two separate apps to manage your various credentials, there’s now: Samsung Wallet. This union allows users to access everything from one place.
“Samsung Wallet is bringing a new level of everyday convenience to mobile devices with a totally safe and secure environment for storing digital keys, cards and more,” said Jeanie Han, EVP and Head of Digital Life, MX Business at Samsung Electronics.
The new “consolidated” app, includes a plethora of features such as:
- Accessing apps and services
- Organizing digital keys, boarding passes,
- Identification cards, one-swipe access to payment cards, loyalty, membership cards,
- monitor cryptocurrency portfolio
- Unlock Home & Car Doors
The company says that its new app is protected by “defense-grade security” made possible through Samsung Knox. Key sensitive information is stored in an isolated environment to protect it from digital or physical intrusions.
It’s a sophisticated hardware and software-based security system that positions several layers of protection over data management. If you’d like to know more about Knox and how it is able to keep your data safe, click here.
Due to Samsung’s partnerships with various security and car companies, users can add digital keys to the wallet app to unlock doors of their homes and cars (compatible BMW, Genesis and Hyundai models). Later in the year, Samsung plans on adding extra features to the Wallet app so that it will support drivers’ licenses and Student IDs.
For now, Samsung Wallet is available in 6 countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the US. All you have to do is open the Samsung Pay or Samsung Pass app on a supported device, and follow the instructions to update and migrate to Samsung Wallet.
