Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby is far more capable now than it has ever been. Despite playing second fiddle to Google Assistant for several years, that hasn’t stopped the Korean giant from improving its features. And despite the fact that many users have given up on the platform, there are several new additions that are worth mentioning:

This is what Bixby can now do:

Text Call in English
English speakers can now answer calls on their phone by simply typing a message. Bixby then converts it to audio and communicates this to the caller on the other end of the call. But that isn’t all, Samsung allows users to personalize the Bixby voice with the new Cutom Voice Creator. They can record different sentences for Bixby to Analyze with AI to create their voice and tone.

Samsung also plans on making the generated voice feature compatible with Samsung apps that aren’t related to phone calls.

Customize Bixby Wake Word
You can now use any phrase of your choosing to activate Bixby. Change the default phrase to your own by accessing the Bixby settings and adding a new option to personalize the wake-up phrase.

Better At Understanding Context
Bixby has better continuity when it comes to understanding a user’s request with the introduction of new scenarios. This includes playing music depending on the type of exercise in Samsung Health or saving particular schedules in your calendar. The Voice assistant has an improved ability to understand intent and follow up questions based on a certain request.

An example of this is to launch a workout via Samsung Health and then tell Bixby to play music that best suits the chosen exercise by saying, “Play music for this workout”. Though it may not play the tracks that you like, it will match the intensity of what you’re doing with the music that’s available.

Expansion of Bixby On-Device AI Support
Users can access more Bixby commands offline which include setting a timer, taking a screenshot or turning on a flashlight. Samsung has improved the use of on-device AI with its native apps. According to the company it was able to expand its language compatibility through advanced AI-based voice dictation.
