The new operating system from Google incorporates Material You. It’s a new design language from the company that unifies the software and hardware experience. The following are just some examples of what users can expect:

  • Once you pick a wallpaper, the system automatically decides which are the dominant colors, complementary ones and which look the best. Then it applies them to the entire OS including the notification shade, lock screen, volume controls, new widgets and more.
  • Notification share, quick settings and power button have been redesigned to help get things done quickly. This has been done to make it easier to view app notifications, what you are watching or control any part of the OS through the revamped Quick Settings.
  • Google has revamped the entire underlying system to be faster, more responsive and power efficient. This includes reducing the CPU time needed for core system services by up to 22% and reducing the use of big cores by the system server by up to 15%.

One UI 4.0 will incorporate these features by putting its own spin on it to suit its own ecosystem. Samsung says that it will offer a whole host of new color palettes to choose from, allow users to alter the look and feel of everything from the home screen to icons, menu, button and background. The widgets have been reworked and will now offer more customization options.

When typing on your keyboard with One UI 4.0, you will have access to a wider variety of emoji features, GIFs and stickers. Samsung says that all these extra options will offer a unique experience to each user.

But the improvements don’t end there because privacy plays a big role in the new OS. It will let you choose what you’d like share or keep private. The system will alert you when an app is attempting to access your camera or microphone.

There’s a new privacy dashboard that puts your settings and controls in a single place. Here you can grant or revoke permissions to apps in one place. This way, you have greater control over what happens on your device and which programs are able to use your data.

One UI 4.0 promises to deliver a unified look across your devices which includes smartphones, tablets and the Galaxy Watch4. If you would like to learn more about the full list of features available in Android 12, click here.
