Schiller Steps Down As Apple’s Marketing Lead
August 5, 2020Phil Schiller, Apple’s head of marketing will be stepping down from his leading role. He isn’t leaving the company either, but will be taking on a lesser role, which is aptly named, Apple Fellow. In this role, he will continue to lead the App Store and Apple events, and report directly to Apple CEO, Tim Cook.
He has been at the company since he was 27 years old. Now, at 60, Schiller believes that a change is in order, when he said, “I’ll keep working here as long as they will have me, I bleed six colors, but I also want to make some time in the years ahead for my family, friends, and a few personal projects I care deeply about.”
Greg Joswiak a leader within Apple’s marketing organisation, will ascend to Schiller’s role as senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. Like his predecessor, Joswiak has been with Apple for quite a while, more than 20 years. And has served several leadership roles in Apple’s product marketing division.
Schiller’s ‘resignation’ is follows several other high profile employees that include former design lead, Jony Ive. These recent departures could signal Apple’s intent to replace the Old Guard with newer faces that are more suitable for its newly chartered course.
