Should You Care For The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G?
August 12, 2021Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is a marked improvement over its predecessor. While the latter served as a proof of concept, the former’s purpose is far greater – the next evolutionary step forward in smartphone technology. The hinge mechanism is tougher than before and the entire phone is rated for IPX8 water resistance.
The overall dimensions haven’t changed but the Flip3 has an armor aluminum frame, which Samsung says is the toughest material it has ever used on a phone. As a result, it’s said to be far more durable than the phone it replaces. This speaks volumes of its robustness and build quality.
Unlike the original Galaxy Fold, there wasn’t anything inherently wrong with the Flip nor were there design flaws that required rectification. It was a good phone period. Now, the Flip3 is built better, has more powerful hardware and is priced reasonably. In addition to this, the 120Hz refresh rate makes the phone feel more responsive to every touch.
It has a Snapdragon 888 and 8GB RAM, which is probably the best hardware you can get for your money. This wasn’t true of the original Flip because Samsung held back by giving it a Snapdragon 855+, a stellar chip for 2020, but it wasn’t the latest one available at that time. This year’s phone doesn’t have such a problem.

Its CoverScreen or outer display is four times larger than what was on the original flip. The 1.9-inch AMOLED display can be used to view multiple notifications, weather information, step count and various others. You can choose what’s displayed on this screen by adjusting the entries in the settings menu.
But the most important reason for the Flip3’s existence is it addresses a fundamental flaw of modern smartphones – size. We need big screens for productivity, but this introduces a problem for our pants pockets. The Flip3 may have a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel, but when folded it’s accommodative to the tightest of jeans pockets.
