Sony has announced the launch of a wireless microphone for the ECM-W2BT Multi Interface Shoe, along with its new compact stereo lavalier microphone, the ECM-LV1. Sony’s ECM-W2BT wireless microphone, paired with Sony cameras with digital audio compatibility, makes it possible to accomplish high-quality audio recording with less noise and a stable connection.

The needs and wants of vloggers, YouTubers and video creators have grown over the years. They need to constantly capture clear, reliable audio data for a variety of situations including on-the-go street performances, product reviews, food reviews, travel vlogs and more.

ECM-W2BT Wireless Microphone
By attaching the wireless microphone to a camera with a digital audio interface compatible Multi Interface Shoe, you can record low-noise digital sound directly on the camera without the need for an external audio cable. A newly designed omni-directional microphone has been integrated into the ECM-W2BT to record high-quality sound from any direction.

The technology also increases audio recording stability by connecting microphone to receiver in any environment, even in crowded environments with additional wireless activity. The new Qualcomm’s aptX codec enables high-quality stereo audio recording while ensuring low latency and good visibility up to 200 meters.

Three sound pick-up modes – MIC mode, MIX mode, and the new RCVR mode – give the user the option of recording sound and ambient sound. With MIC mode, sounds are only picked up at the transmitter, so only the subject’s audio is recorded. With RCVR mode, recorded audio is only picked up at the receiver, but the subject can also record their own audio.

MIX mode allows simultaneous listening to a subject and a receiver. It is therefore useful when audio from the subject and the user are needed. It supports stereo audio input using a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack, so you can combine it with a stereo-compatible lavalier microphone like the ECM-LV1 compact stereo lavalier microphone and use it discreetly as an on-the-go lavalier recording mic. This adapter can be used with cameras with a Multi Interface Shoe or without a Multi Interface Shoe.

Whenever recording in challenging environments, the ECM-W2BT wireless microphone can be used with it’s attenuator functionality. This enables users to pick an appropriate level from three different attenuators depending on the volume of the sound source they’re recording. In addition to the windscreen, the ECM-W2BT also includes a battery assist power supply that allows the receiver to keep running for nine hours via the camera’s Multi Interface Shoe.

In order to inform the user whether the microphone and receiver are communicating correctly with one another, the ECM-W2BT includes a LINK lamp and a POWER lamp. The receiver is equipped with a connector protection holder-cover that can be used not only to carry a receiver and a microphone as a unit, but also to serve as a microphone stand to secure microphone positioning while conducting interviews or other stationary uses.

The ECM-LV1 Microphone
With a compact design and high audio quality, a stereo lavalier microphone is ideal for full-time shooting. In addition to the windscreen, the 360-degree rotatable clip allows you to attach this microphone horizontally to a necktie or vertically to a pocket, with the mic positioned at the same angle. Power can be supplied by the mic connector.

Pricing and Availability
The ECM-W2BT wireless microphone and the ECM-LV1 Compact Stereo Lavalier Microphone will be available in Malaysia from May 2021, at recommended selling price of RM929 and RM129.
