Sony has chosen to delay its latest PlayStation event potentially due to the unrest in the US. Initially, the event, which was aimed at showcasing games made specifically made for the upcoming PS5, was scheduled to broadcast via online platforms, Twitch and Youtube.

But a recent update on the PlayStation blog shows that the original date, June 4th, has been scored out. It’s highly likely that this signals the postponement of the event to a later date, that has yet to be specified. During the event, Sony wanted show what game developers, both big and small, were developing that ‘will showcase the PS5’s true potential‘.

The event, which was scheduled to air for slightly over an hour, is part of Sony’s series of updates that it wants to conduct en route to the console’s official launch, later this year. These events will inevitability build our excitement as we wait with bated breath for the next generation PlayStation console.

Sony’s decision to postpone the event is understandable considering how important the US market is to them. Since late last week, protests have erupted across major US cities, as people took to the streets to show their displeasure toward the police. Said protests, which were mostly peaceful, were in direct response to the death of George Floyd.

Floyd, an African-American, is one of the latest casualties in a series of deaths of unarmed black man at the hands of police officers in the US. Though initially peaceful, the protests have turned violent, leading to the looting and destruction of stores. As a direct response, Apple chose to shutter its outlets for the time being until the situation improves.
