Stadia, Google’s game streaming service launching November 19th
November 18, 2019Google’s game streaming service, Stadia, will come online on November 19th. And if you are one of the lucky few who sprang for the Founder’s Edition pack, chances are, you’ve already received your kit in the mail. Starting at 9AM PST/5PM BST/6PM CET, users will be able to buy and play the latest games that are available on the platform.
In case you didn’t know, Stadia is a streaming service from Google. As Netlfix is to movie titles, Stadia allows users to stream the latest games on a smartphone, tablet, PC or TV. Unlike the conventional method for gaming, where the game data resides on your device, with Stadia, it’s all in the cloud.
Technically, all your device is doing, is streaming content. The graphics processing, the power intensive part of gaming, is done by Google’s servers. This essentially takes your hardware limits and system bottle-necking, out of the equation. As long as you have a fast and stable internet connection, the gaming performance will be on par with that of a high-end gaming rig.
At launch, there will be several games that will be ready to play, which include Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Destiny 2: The Collection, GYLT, Just Dance 2020, Kine, Mortal Combat 11, Red Dead Redemption 2, Thumper, Tomb Raider series, and Samurai Shodown.
Understandably, It’s an underwhelming list but there are more games on the way. Launching at a later date in 2019 is Grid, Metro Exodus, NBA2K20, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Borderlands 3, Final Fantasy XV, Football Manager 2020 and several others.
In total, 12 game titles will be playable on November 19th, and an additional 14, which includes those mentioned above, will become available towards the end of the year. If you’ve bought the Founder’s Edition or Premiere Edition, you have the dedicated Stadia gaming controller and 4K Chromecast, and 3 months access to Stadia Pro.
This kit should give you a good gaming experience on Stadia but not necessarily the best. Games are playable on any platform, so, depending on your preference, you should get the best gaming experience from just about any device you choose.
