Steam Deck Delayed Due To Global Supply Chain Shortages

November 10, 2021 Off By Naveen Victor

The release of Valve’s highly anticipated mobile gaming platform, the Steam Deck will be delayed for another 2 more months. The news published on its site, which was first reported by Engadget, effectively pushes its release date into the first half of 2022. Citing global supply chain issues, the company says that components are not reaching its manufacturing facilities in time for it to honor the original launch date.

Valve’s best estimates suggest that customers should begin receiving their handheld consoles by February 2022. This is what is has to say about it:

“Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022. This will be the new start date of the reservation queue—all reservation holders keep their place in line but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.”

In the same blogpost, the company apologized for the delay but said that it will continue to work to improve reservation dates based on the new timeline and will continue to update customers accordingly. In case you didn’t know……

Steam’s new handheld console has the potential to shake up the gaming industry. As of now, the Nintendo Switch is the only such device that stands out from a sea of wannabe ‘console’ killers. But with the Steam Deck, we could be looking at a two-horse race toward handheld supremacy.

It features a 7-inch touchscreen display that should be big enough for mobile gaming. But you could also use it like any other tablet to browse the web, read books or stream content. The Steam Deck is powered by a Zen 2+ RDNA 2 chip that is supposed to have enough in it to run the latest AAA gaming titles.

Steam has given it a 40Whr battery that should offer several hours-of-service life. However, if you play less demanding games or surf the web, you should get about 7-8 hours of battery life. You can choose between three storage options, a 64GB eMMC, 256GB NVMe SSD or 512GB NVMe SSD.
