August 3, 2021 Off By Rowena CletusIn Telegram’s latest update, great emphasis has been placed on video features. Now group video calls can have up to 1000 participants, video messages can be expanded and recorded with better quality, while regular videos can be sped up by half or twice. Aside from that, you can now share your screen as well.
Video Group Calls 2.0
Streaming video from a camera and a screen to up to 30 users at once – and 1000 people can join in on online classes to rap battles. To participate in a Group Video Call, go to the group’s info page (in the * menu on Android), then turn on video.
Video Messages 2.0
Checking in or sharing your surroundings with a video message is a quick and convenient way to stay connected. There are now higher-resolution video messages and you can tap on one to expand it and see them all. Using one of the video message options will pause the video and let you the fast forward or rewind if you’ve missed something.
You can switch from voice message recording to video message recording by tapping the microphone icon in the message bar. Once you have recorded the video, switch back to the camera by tapping the camera icon.
Audio from your device will keep playing as you record so you can now sing along to your favorite songs or reply without pausing your podcast. Additionally, recording with your rear camera lets you pinch to zoom in and capture things at a distance or add a dramatic effect (eerie music not included).
Video Playback Speed
Besides allowing users to experience lectures at 0.5x, 1.5x and 2x speed, the media player now lets you replay moves in slow motion.
To change your video playback speed, tap ⋮ on Android or ⋯ on iOS when watching a video in fullscreen. You can also switch playback speed when playing voice or video messages when holding the 2X button on Android.
Timestamp Links
Users can now jump to the exact second they see a timestamp in the caption or reply to videos and YouTube links – and you can hold a timestamp in a message to copy the link for sharing it elsewhere.
Sharing A Screen With Sound
Video calls with 1-on-1 have expanded screen sharing by including the sound from the device you’re using when broadcasting the screen. Any time you turn on video during a call, you can swipe to select a camera or choose to share your screen instead – and view the video preview to make sure everything works before going live.
To share your screen during a video call, tap the camera button and select your screen as the video source.
After 1 month, Auto-Delete
There’s now an option to have your chats automatically erased after 1 day or 1 week – and 1 month. To enable the timer on Android, tap ⋮ > Clear History then choose a duration. On iOS, press and hold a message, tap Select > Clear Chat (top-left) > Enable Auto-Delete.
Precision Drawing
With the media editor, your photos and videos can be illustrated with drawings, animations, and stickers. The brush width automatically decreases as you zoom in allowing you to add fine details (or that perfect mustache and pointy ears).
To change the width of your brush at any time, drag the dot up from the color selector. The Telegram Desktop app now has its own photo editor to crop, rotate or flip images – and add drawings or stickers. Desktop users can send edited versions of your images as uncompressed files by unchecking the Compress Images box.
Passcode Animations
The passcode lock interfaces are even faster with the new animations. If you’re using an animated background, it will also appear on the passcode lock screen. The disco never stops.
Password Recovery and Reminders
There is now a prompt in Settings that lets you practice entering your Two-Step Verification password. As long as you are still logged into your account, you can reset your password if you forget it even without a recovery email. All of your devices can be used to cancel the process. It takes seven days.
New In-App Camera on iOS
With the updated in-app camera, you can now zoom any way you want – including 0.5x and 2x if you have them. By pressing and holding, you can open a zoom wheel that allows you to zoom in and out with granular control.
To use the in-app camera, tap the 📎 icon in the message bar and then tap the camera feed in the attachment menu.
More for iOS
Forward messages to multiple recipients by selecting ‘Select’ from the forwarding menu and share the best memes with all your best pals. When you scroll with two fingers in the chat list, you can select several chats to archive, delete, or mark all as read.
