This year’s Consumer Electronics Show play host for some amazing launch events, which includes Samsung’s 8K QLED TV. Mind, this isn’t your average idiot box. It’s jam-packed with technology and features we didn’t know that we needed.

One could be forgiven for gawking in awe at Samsung’s new hardware. After all, its svelte dimensions, crystal clear 8K resolution and almost bezeless borders (99% screen-to-body ratio) are attributes that current TVs simply cannot match.

Officially, it’s called the Q950, and its only 15mm thick. Once mounted to a wall, it resembles a large framed picture than an actual television. And though 8K content is still a scarcity on YouTube and movie streaming sites, this, in no way, renders the TV pointless.

Through the use of it’s ‘Quantum Processor’, the Q950 is able to accurately upscale lower resolution content to full 8K. The AI upscalling capabilities uses machine learning to analyze individual pixels to recreate crisp 8K content regardless of the video source.

In addition to this, the same AI tech is used to scan the ambient lighting then readjusts the TV’s display to ensure that whatever you are watching, doesn’t seem washed out or blurry. Samsung says that the contrast and brightness will remain on point, no matter the situation.

That’s not all. The TV also has an Active Voice Amplifier that monitors the ambient noises around it. It then manipulates the audio output to ensure that you get the best audio experience possible. Such is progress!

Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant has also been baked into the TV’s Tizen operating system. You can interact with it, with just your voice. Luckily, you aren’t stuck with Bixby either. Eventually, Google’s Voice Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa will also be included in the Q950’s list of helpful assistants.
