What’s New With WearOS Powered By Samsung?
August 15, 2021Google has managed to revamp WearOS with the help of Samsung. The new platform is an amalgamation of ‘stuff’ that worked on the standard WearOS and Tizen. Officially named WearOS powered by Samsung, the new unified platform provides users with features that they need.
It made its debut on the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic. The new smartwatches boast a plethora of sensors and improvements to overall efficiency. Both watches have a 2.5x shorter set up experience, 40 hours of battery life and 30% faster load time for apps. The new OS is also supported by the vast ecosystem of apps and services from Google Play.
Material You, which is Google’s new design language dictates how apps like Google Maps, Messages and YouTube look on the new UI. New apps and tiles will also be coming to WearOS in the near future to enhance the user experience.
The following are some of the new features made available on the watch:
Navigation with Google Maps
Users can get legible turn by turn navigation instructions when they are walking, cycling or driving. Google Maps instructions are pushed from their iPhone or Android device. The watch will also show the home and work addresses that have been added, making it easier for users to access when in a hurry.
Messages By Google
The updated Messages by Google apps, allows users to read and reply to messages directly from the smartwatch. These messages are synced between the watch and smartphone.
Google Pay Supported In More Countries
The Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic support Google Pay. They can be used to make contactless payments at outlets that support the platform. Google Pay is now available in 16 new countries including Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, Taiwan, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates.
To use the service, download the Google Pay app from the Play Store app on the smartwatch.
Download and Listen To YouTube Music
YouTube Music subscribers can now download music directly to smartwatches. The app also uses a Smart Downloads feature that refreshes downloaded songs when the device is charging or connected to WiFi.
