Xiaomi Introduces The First Quad-Curved Display Device

Xiaomi has announced its first smartphone with a waterfall-shaped screen, which has a 88° hyper quad-curved screen design allowing the UI to wrap around the phone’s silhouette. It covers the entire frame from edge to edge. As a result, and there there aren’t any ports or buttons on the body.

Referencing the conventional-style smartphone, the engineers decided they wanted to simplify everything before even thinking about other requirements. As anyone would imagine, creating the quad-curved waterfall screen was a challenge in itself, which required the use of 3D bonding technology during the manufacturing process.

Each glass may require up to ten steps and four different polishing tools to set it right. Due to the 88 degree bend, creating the curved glasses required in-house developed glass processing equipment, and the need for hot bending under high temperature and pressure.

No Port Design
This Xiaomi is truly a port-free unibody smartphone with full display on all sides. It uses 46 self-developed patented technologies that allow ports and buttons to replace their functions with elegant alternatives. It also has a ceramic piezoelectric structure, flexible film display acoustic technology, wireless charging, eSIM, pressure-sensitive touch sensors, and much more.
