Xiaomi has launched its Redmi 9 Pro Max and 9 Pro phones in India. Both devices feature the country’s home-brewed navigation system NavIC, built in collaboration with ISORU. It is hoped that the phones build on the success of of the Redmi Note 8 Pro and offer consumers a refined user experience not unlike that expected of flaghip devices.

Sporting Xiaomi’s ‘improved’ Aura Design language, both phones feature a sleek silhouette, encased in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for the front and rear. Unlike the nomenclature used by other smartphone makers, the Redmi 9 Pro and 9 Pro Max feature the same 6.67-inch Full HD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G is at the heart of these devices but depending on configuration, the Max can be had with 8GB of RAM while the Pro is limited to just 6GB RAM. Xiaomi mounted the quad camera setup in the centre and arranged as such, to limit distortion while moving from lens to lens.

The Max has a 64MP Primary Sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and 2MP. The lesser 9 Pro, has all but the main camera sensor. It has to make to with a 48MP one and a slightly lower 16MP selfie camera. Also, its bigger brother comes with better tools for videography that include super stabilization for the rear’s main and wide angle sensors.

All things considered, the trade-offs aren’t that bad but the Max does get a sophisticated Z-axis linear vibration motor for haptic feedback. Both phones are being offered in three colour options, Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue and Glacier White. Prices for the Max are INR 14,999, INR 16,999 and INR 18,999 respectively, while the 9 Pro is, INR 12,999 and INR 15,999.

There’s no word yet if or when these devices will hit international markets, but we wait with bated breath….
