Xiaomi Removed From U.S. Blacklist

Xiaomi has been removed from the blacklist put in place by the Trump administration. According to Bloomberg, the Chinese tech giant and the U.S. government have agreed to put aside the ban that would restrict American investment in Xiaomi.

This should be considered as good news by the company and its users who were worried about the probability of Xiaomi heading down the path Huawei seems to be stuck in for now. The US Department of Defence previously listed Xiaomi as an entity linked to China’s army (PLA).

It considers the development of the link between military and civil entities in China in terms of the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) as a topic of great concern. Xiaomi found itself in hot water due to this very problem. However, it seems to have done well to convince the US that it isn’t the threat it was made out to be.

Only time will tell if Huawei, another Chinese tech giant, will ever be able to untangle itself from a web of accusations that has crippled its business activities. This has caused the company significant problems outside China, which includes being barred from engaging with Google and semiconductor companies like Qualcomm.
