Apple Unveils New iPhone SE 5G

The rumors were true. During Apple’s Keynote event, the company introduced a new iPhone SE 5G that dorns the same body as the fabled iPhone 8. However, it uses an aerospace-grade aluminum and glass design, which covers the front and back. The look and feel should be similar to that of the phone its based on but the SE features a 4.7-inch display.

At its heart sits the same A15 Bionic chip that powers the latest iPhone 13. But Apple claims it still managed to deliver better battery life than previous generation phones of the same 4.7-inch screen size. It can be charged wirelessly with any compatible Qi-certified chargers, which is a first for a budget iPhone.

It’s rated for IP67 which includes water and dust resistance. Just like the iPhone 8, the SE gets a Home button with Touch ID. The “legacy” hardware detects your fingerprint and unlocks the phone. Mainstream iPhones have ditched this authentication method for a Face ID.

The phone also gets a new camera system that consists of a 12MP, f/1.8 aperture wide camera that supports Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, Deep Fusion, and Portrait mode. Deep Fusion uses machine learning to do pixel-by-pixel processing to tweak the details of a photo and reduce the overall noise.

iPhone SE will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models in midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED starting at $429 (US).
