Apple Watch Series 10, What You Need To Know

September 10, 2024 Off By Naveen Victor

Apple’s new Watch Series 10 is a slightly more refined version of the Series 9. It’s slightly bigger (9% bigger display) larger than its predecessor and its OLED display can emit more light at wider angles. As such, it’s 40% brighter than the Series 9 when viewed from an angle. It’s available in 42mm and 46mm sizes, which are slightly larger than last year’s models.

Since the OLED display is a little more power efficient, it also gets a faster refresh rate when the watch is left in the always-on mode. Instead of the screen refreshing every minute as was the case with the Series 9, it’s able to do it every second. As such, you’ll be able to see the minute hand move in real time without having to raise your wrist.

The Series 10 comes in either aluminum or titanium which replaces the stainless steel of the Series 9. Aluminum cases of the new watch are 10% lighter than the Series 9 while the titanium ones weigh 20% less than the stainless-steel options of the Series 9.

Despite being thinner than its predecessor, the Series 10 can still offer the same 18-hour battery life. And to achieve this sleek profile, the metal back integrates the antenna into the housing of the device, combining two layers into a single unit. Its color is painted to match the rest of the body to provide the illusion of it being a single piece of metal.

This new metal back also has a larger and more efficient charging coil, which enables the watch to charge to 80% in 30 minutes. With just 15 minutes of charging, the Series 10 can offer 8 hours of normal daily use. The watch offers 50-meters of water resistance, which should be enough to take it on swimming activities.

There’s automatic stroke detection and lap counting for water related activities. The inclusion of a new depth gauge and water temperature sensor add to the overall functionality of this watch. This new depth gauge can measure 6 meters below the water surface, which should be enough for snorkeling and shallow diving.

The temperature sensor can measure the temperature of the water around it the moment the Apple watch is submerged. Once in the water, the Depth app can display the time, current depth, water temperature, duration under water, and maximum depth. There’s the option to automatically activate this as soon as the Apple Watch is submerged.

Audio can now be played back through the watch’s built-in speaker. Other than phone calls, you can listen to audio from a range of apps that include Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Books, and third-party apps. Series 10 uses the new voice isolation neural network to suppress background noise during a call so that the user’s voice sounds crisp and clear.

The aluminum bodied Apple Watch Series 10 (42mm priced at RM1,799 and 46mm priced at 1,949) is available in jet black, rose gold and silver, while the titanium ones come in either natural, gold or slate (42mmis priced at RM3,299 and 46mm is offered at RM3,549).

Features that are available with watchOS11:

The new Vitals app, which gives users a way to instantly view key overnight health metrics and gain better context when it comes to their health. When two or more metrics are out of their typical range, users can receive a notification, along with a message detailing how the changes in these specific metrics may be linked to other aspects of their life, such as elevation changes, alcohol consumption, or even illness.

Training load, a new way to measure how the intensity and duration of workouts impact a user’s body over time, which can help users make informed decisions about their training each day.

Even more customizable Activity rings, offering users the ability to specify Activity ring goals by the day of the week, so the rings provide the right amount of motivation at the right moments. Users can also pause their rings for a day, week, month, or more without affecting their award streaks, allowing users to plan a rest day, care for an injury, or just take a day off.
