DJI’s products are some of the most well known drones on the market. The quality and reliability of these UAVs have won them fans all over the world. Many sectors have found multiple uses for them including capturing aerial footage for films, inspecting construction sites and food delivery services. But more importantly, they are being used in rescue missions.

So far, DJI drones have helped rescue more than 500 people around the world, thanks to its plethora of sensors and functions such as GPS navigation, imaging cameras and the ability to fly independently by utilizing a pre-defined flight plan. One such case was when Cass County Sheriff’s Office used a drone to rescue a 93-year-old woman in a dark field in Missouri.

Poor visibility hindered much of the ground rescue efforts but the DJI drone travelling overhead, was able to spot Chris Fairchild as a bright yellow dot and alerted deputies to her presence. The woman was exhausted and had lost a shoe but was unharmed when she was found, and waived to the drone.

A similar story was reported in the city of Boao on Hainan Island, China where a DJI drone was involved with finding and rescuing three surfers. They had fallen into the ocean and could not swim to shore. This shows that drones offer an unprecedented level of convenience and scalability. Almost any one can learn to fly a DJI drone in a substantially short amount of time.

“Just a few years ago, drones were an experimental technology for innovators in public safety, and civilians with drones often volunteered to help the professionals in emergencies,” said Romeo Durscher, DJI Senior Director of Public Safety Integration.

He added, “Today, public safety agencies across the world have adopted drones as a standard piece of equipment, and drones save people from peril every few days. It’s an astonishing success story for public safety, and for the people who are alive today because of drones.”

The usefulness of these drones will continue to grow as more technology is perpetually packed into them every year. Many logistics and food delivery services are exploring the feasibility of using drones to deliver food and packages to customers. It’s one of several ways being used to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
