Do You Want A Stealthy Robot Shark?
July 10, 2021Want a robot shark? A Chinese company called ROBOSEA might have exactly what you need. It specializes in robotic machinery for sea-based applications. The most intriguing of its product portfolio is its matte-black mini shark that looks as menacing as it is capable of blending with the dark ocean floor.
The creators say that it has been modeled after real sharks and instead of a conventional propeller system, uses the movement of its three-joint caudal fin to get around. This, coupled with the fact the entire body is made from sound-absorbing material, allows it to blend in with its surroundings.
It measures 2200x930x850mm and weighs 75kg – this isn’t your average robo-fish. It has a claimed top speed of 10 knots and is fitted with lights that can be adjusted to suit individual needs. Onboard, it has an omnidirectional obstacle-avoidance system that helps it to safely meander past obstacles in its path.
We’re still lost on the application for such a product other than to scare unsuspecting swimmers. But ROBOSEA is pitching it as a reconnaissance device, which is able to “track the target quickly” and “can do missions like closing up rapidly”. But if this isn’t your cup of tea, it also makes a less threatening robo-fish called the BIKI.
This is a pudgy vehicle with the least threatening look of the entire product line up. It’s about the size of a modern camcorder and features a mono lens at the front. It has similar avoidance tech and can be controlled via the supplied remote or by using the smartphone app. The 16MP camera can capture 4K video with its 150 degree wide angle lens.
If you’re interested the BIKI retails for USD499.00 on Amazon. This is the kind of tech we would like to see more of, especially ones that resemble the matte-black robot shark.
