Intel Claims 12th Gen Mobile Chips To Offer 70% Better Performance

Intel has announced an expanded line-up of its 12th gen processors. A stark departure from previous generation chips, the new mobile products include performance and efficiency cores for a balanced for performance and power consumption. The announcement brings to light the addition of 20 new variants of the new architecture slated to power next gen thin-and-light laptops.

The first devices will be available to consumers in March 2022 and will be offered by Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, NEC, Samsung and others. The hybrid architecture is supposed to allow for more efficient use of a processor’s core count with the help of Intel’s Thread Director on Windows 11, where tasks are assigned to the right core at the right time for optimal performance.

These are some of the advantages that Intel has highlighted:

  • All-new core architecture with up to 14 cores (6 P-cores and 8 E-cores)
  • Integrated Intel® Iris® Xe graphics with up to 96EU
  • Broad memory support for DDR5/LPDDR5 and DDR4/LPDDR4
  • Incredible scale with up to 70% faster multi-thread performance
  • Nearly 2x performance for 3D rendering2 — ideal for creators on the go
  • Superior productivity performance with up to 30% faster photo editing
  • Integrated Intel® Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) for improved wireless performance, responsiveness and reliability
  • Thunderbolt™ 4 for the fastest, simplest and most reliable cable solution to any dock, display or accessory
  • Intel IPU 6.0 for high image quality and power efficiency for enhanced videoconferencing.

If Intel’s claims prove to be true, it will level the playing field for Windows based laptops that have been overshadowed by Apple’s blisteringly quick M1, M1 Pro & M1 Max chips. We shall have to wait for these new machines to hit the market to verify these claims.

The company also said that machine bearing the third gen Evo moniker, will undergo the most stringent tests to ensure they can deliver “superior videoconferencing experience, exceptional responsiveness, instant wake, real-world battery life and fast charging”. More than 100 Intel Evo verified machines are expected to hit the market this year with 12th Gen Core H-Series.
