October 28, 2021 Off By Rowena Cletus

With the reopening of international borders and easing of international travel restrictions, Maxis is the first telco in Malaysia to offer its customers 5G international roaming services in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

“We are pleased to have reached this milestone with our roaming partners in these three countries and we are looking forward to providing customers with 5G speeds and latency when traveling. Having the best connectivity experience wherever they are is a testament to how dedicated we are to helping individuals and businesses Always Be Ahead. We also encourage our customers to adhere to the relevant SOPs while traveling,” Gokhan Ogut, Maxis’ Chief Executive Officer, said.

Upon arrival at any of these three destinations, customers can choose to roam on either Singtel in Singapore, AIS in Thailand, or Telkomsel in Indonesia. All 5G-enabled devices will automatically receive the 5G roaming service.

While roaming, Maxis customers using 5G will be charged the same price as those using 4G, there no extra charges. Maxis Roaming banner can be found on the Maxis app, and customers just need to click on it to subscribe.

Hotlink customers can, however, just activate data roaming to automatically subscribe for a Data Roam Pass. If they prefer, they can manually subscribe by dialing *100#, going to ‘International Roaming’, selecting ‘Country’, and selecting one of the available passes.

By the end of 2021, Maxis also plans on launching 5G roaming to other popular destinations.
