Maxis Wants Customers With 3G Services To Upgrade To 4G

Access to a strong and reliable mobile data network is essential to online activities, online transactions, and working from home, as they have become increasingly prevalent. To address these changes, the Government implemented the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA).

It’s a digital infrastructure planning strategy to support more 4G coverage and a better broadband experience for all Malaysians. The initiative aims to move away from 3G, which will be undertaken by all telecommunications providers in 2021. It is the intention of companies to pivot to faster and more reliable 4G networks that would enable 10 times more download speeds than 3G, instant webpage leading, and smoother music and video streaming.

In order to gradually upgrade to 4G before year end, Maxis engages and communicates proactively with its 3G customers across all three segments – mobile consumers, mobile enterprises and M2M/IoT enterprises. As part of its 4G upgrade campaign, Maxis is also launching a campaign called Balas Budi dengan 4G, designed to assist and support customers in preparing for their eventual network upgrade. This campaign encourages people with 4G access who still use 3G devices to encourage their family members and friends to switch to 4G, including how to have easy access to 4G devices.

“This retirement of 3G is being carried out with a customer-first mindset, and we are firmly committed to assisting every customer every step of the way. We are always available for those who need assistance or have questions about the upgrade”. “In addition, we encourage our 4G users to encourage their families and friends who are still using 3G to switch over to the 4G network and device so that no one is left behind,” added Patrick Er, Maxis Chief Sales and Services Officer.

Existing Maxis 4G customers will not be affected by the move, but are encouraged to enable Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) on their devices. A VoLTE call delivers crystal-clear sound and reduced background noise while on the Maxis network, simultaneously enabling users to browse at 4G speeds while on a call. The operator will start rolling out VoLTE in phases to its prepaid and postpaid customers starting in October 2020.
