Motorola’s newly introduced edge+ 5G phone signals its foray against the flagship stalwarts. Evidently, it has been quite a while since the company had a device that could rival Samsung’s heavy hitters. And to show that it hasn’t lost its mojo, the company has pulled out all the stops, cramming as much as it could into this new device.

It’s a slender phone covered in a 6.7-inch curved HDR10+ display (90Hz) that wraps around the entire front end. There’s single punch hole camera at the op left hand corner of the 21:9 ‘Endless Edge’ screen, similar to that of other phones of its ilk.

Now, there are two versions of the phone. There’s the edge+ and edge, with latter being a watered down version of the former. Powering the edge+ is the top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip and an impressive 12GB of DDR5 RAM. This setup is 25% faster and drains less power when taxed compared to its predecessors.

Through the use of the Edge Touch functionality, the display’s edges can be used to access notifications and switch apps. When left to charge, said edges are also able to indicate battery charging status, incoming calls, alarms or other notifications. It’s part of My UX, the company’s software suite that allow users to customize the way they interact with the device.

On the phone’s sleek rear is a camera setup that is able to rival that of other flagship devices. It’s a quad camera setup with a 108MP main sensors, 16MP ultra-wide, 8MP telephoto and a Macro lens. Users will be able to record smooth 4K video in low light conditions with the help of OIS and EIS. The camera can also capture 20MP photos when recording video.

The edge+ also benefits from a decent set of speakers with Waves technology, TurboPowerTM wired fast charging, wireless charging as well as the ability to charge other devices through wireless power sharing. It’s an over the top device, just like a flagship ought to be.

The less equipped edge, has to make do with a Snapdragon 765, less powerful 64MP main camera and only sub-6GHz 5G frequencies as opposed to the edge+’s mmWave and sub-6GHz. It also gets a 4,500mAh battery instead of the edge+’s 5,000mAh unit. That said, both phones have the identical 6.7-inch display.

In the US, the edge+ will only be made available exclusively to Verizon customers on May 14th for $41.66 a month for 24 months on Verizon Device Payment (0% APR; $999.99 retail). But it will reach Europe, UAE, KSA, India and certain Latin American markets in May.

The regular edge will make its way to Italy and other European countries in the coming weeks, then in the coming months head to the US and certain markets in Latin America and Asia Pacific.
