Motorola Stands By Razr Durability Study
February 9, 2020Motorola has begun shipping the new Razr to customers. And on cue, some who have managed to lay their hands on said devices have begun torture testing them, as a means to verify the hinge’s robustness. Foldable phones are fascinating devices, but how robust are they?
That seems to be the question on everyone’s mind, lately. Some have even resorted to subjecting the Razr to automated folding tests, to simulate real world use. But said results, haven’t painted Motorola’s poster child, in a good light. Apparently, that didn’t sit well with team Motorola.

The company took to Twitter to show their interpretation of a proper durability test. Admittedly, Motorola’s rig does seem to simulate practical folding behavior. And, by utilizing said method, the company says that the Razr will be able to offer several years worth of ‘folding’ service.
Unlike the mechanism employed by the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Motorola’s folding hinge seems to be less ridged, allowing some play between the display and the mechanism itself. This, maybe Motorola’s secret sauce to ensure maximum durability.
Take a look at Motorola’s behind the scenes video to know how much effort went into the design of said device.
