Motorola has released the Razr 5G, the newest iteration of the company’s foldable phone. Last year’s Razr showed what the company was capable of making. And this year’s device builds upon this by making the phone platform, just that much better. It still has the same compact dimensions, but with improved features and better tech.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 765G chipset and 6GB RAM. Though it won’t offer flagship-like performance, it should be a competent mid-range phone. But what Motorola wants you to focus on, is the improved quick view features with the Razr’s small front display.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Updated gesture navigation allows you to access your favorite features easily.
  • The Quick View display has a navigation bar at the bottom that mimics the gestures of Android 10, You can also swipe right from the home screen to quickly access the camera, or swipe left to access the new app tray.
  • Keep in touch by replying to messages with speech-to-text, smart reply, or type a longer message on the Quick View’s full keyboard.
  • You can access turn-by-turn navigation from Google Maps notifications and your favorite music apps like Spotify, YouTube Music, and Pandora.
  • NFC technology enables Google Pay in stores around the globe and allows you to share content like contacts, pictures, and videos with other devices wirelessly.

There are 8 pre-selected apps that can be accessed via the front display, however users can change this and select their own preferred apps. Selfies can also be taken on the display by using the 48MP sensor that functions both as the front and rear camera.

It uses Quad Pixel technology with 4x better low light sensitivity. The optical image stabilization, should help smoothen footage and reduce blurriness of the captured pictures. There’s also a Camera Cartoon feature that indicates whether the subject is in focus, on the front screen.

This isn’t an all new device, despite the addition of the glossy color accents, Motorola has tweaked last year’s device to offer a better experience. There’s still the tapered chin, 3D glass, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 6.2-inch (21:9) screen. However the hinge has been updated to withstand more punishment and offer zero gap when completely folded.

Motorola says that the Razr 5G’ hinge can withstand 200,000 flips, which equates to 5-years of use. It also has a custom protective coating that protects it from scratches. A water repellent barrier built into the device protects it against spills, splashes and rain.

The new Motorola Razr 5G is priced at $1,399.99, and will make its way to global markets in the coming months.
