May 5, 2021 Off By Naveen Victor

Peloton is recalling its Tread+ and Tread treadmills after a report that a child died and 72 other less serious incidents occurred. Those who have purchased said equipment have been asked to stop using them immediately and contact the manufacturer for a full refund or other qualified remedy.

The recalls have been initiated by both the U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Peloton. The 6-year-old child who died, was pulled under the rear of the treadmill. The other 72 reports were of adults, children, pets and/or objects being pulled under the rear of the treadmill.

This includes 29 reports of children suffering second and third-degree abrasions, broken bones, and lacerations. Users who do not want a refund, can opt for a software upgrade that will automatically lock the Tread+ after each use and prevent unauthorised access. A 4 digit code will be required to unlock said treadmill.

In the United States, the Tread was sold in limited numbers from November 2020 to March 2021. Peloton is currently working on a repair solution for the affected machines, which should be offered to users in the coming weeks.

Until the issue can be sorted, the company has stopped the sale and distribution of the affected devices. If you would like to know more, visit Peloton’s website.
